About the Role
Ultimate Alloys Pvt. Ltd., a steel casting foundry based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, seeks a skilled Casting Dimension Inspector to strengthen its Quality Control department. This position involves ensuring dimensional accuracy of various steel castings at multiple stages prior to machining and dispatch.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct dimensional inspections of raw, proof-machined, and finished steel castings following approved drawings and specifications.
- Inspect intricate components such as pump casings, valve bodies, and other heavy engineering castings.
- Verify critical dimensional parameters including machining allowances, wall thicknesses, bore dimensions, flange locations, center lines, and overall casting geometry.
- Perform layout inspections using surface tables, height gauges, and conventional measuring instruments.
- Utilize precision tools such as Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, Bore Gauges, and Depth Gauges for inspection.
- Apply template, fixture, and gauge-based inspection methods as appropriate.
- Interpret engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements proficiently.
- Identify defects such as mismatches, core shifts, distortions, warpage, and dimensional deviations before release for machining.
- Mark required datum/reference points and machining references on castings.
- Maintain detailed dimensional inspection reports and ensure traceability records are up to date.
- Collaborate with Foundry Production, Pattern Shop, Fettling, Machine Shop, and Quality teams to address dimensional discrepancies.
- Engage in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for dimensional non-conformities.
- Support customer or third-party dimensional inspection and witnessing activities when required.
- Ensure all measuring instruments are calibrated and valid prior to use.
Candidate Profile
- Educational qualification: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional experience: Between 3 to 8 years of dimensional inspection experience, ideally within a steel casting foundry environment.
- Experience with large, complex pump and valve castings is favored.
- Strong grasp of casting dimensional inspection, layout inspections, and casting tolerances.
- Sound understanding of machining allowances, core shift, distortion control, and GD&T.
- Proficient documentation and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with a hands-on approach to inspecting complex steel castings.
