Position Overview
The Cashier role, designated at grade AM-II in the Branch Banking department, is a full-time position responsible for managing all cash transactions and operations within the branch in compliance with banking regulations and internal policies. The role reports to the Branch Operation Officer and involves maintaining accurate records in relevant registers or systems and performing end-of-day reconciliations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth daily operations by accurately processing cash transactions and account updates.
- Manage cash handling functions including receipt and processing of various instruments like cheque, drafts, pay orders up to authorized limits with proper acknowledgements.
- Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and collect cash against deposits.
- Collect loan repayments as per EMI schedules, maintaining accurate system entries.
- Maintain registers such as inward/outward, petty cash, and asset registers, and coordinate requisitions with the Regional Head Office.
- Conduct daily cash tallying against books and reports, preparing end-of-day branch reports.
- Responsible jointly for cash handling and branch vault operations alongside the operations officer.
- Engage with customers during transactions, identify opportunities for cross-selling bank products, and provide updates on new services.
- Provide courteous, timely service and escalate customer grievances appropriately.
- Educate customers on alternative banking channels.
- Count and verify cash at day start and closing before vaulting.
- Secure branch cash, keys, and valuables jointly with Assistant Branch Manager ensuring smooth cash department functioning.
- Ensure compliance with all cash-related regulations, bank policies, and defined transaction processing timelines.
- Verify loan repayment transactions, authenticate customers during withdrawals, and ensure accuracy in deposit documentation.
- Update passbooks and process currency chest deposits as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of bank products, regulations, and KYC guidelines with mandatory training completions.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Graduation in any discipline, preferably Finance or Commerce.
- 1 to 2 years of experience handling large cash volumes.
- Familiarity with financial software or ERP systems for transaction entries.
- Strong cash handling and accounting capabilities, including fake note detection.
- Meticulous and systematic approach with sensitivity to customer wait times.
- Computer proficiency with relevant banking software (training provided).
- Strong numerical aptitude and multitasking skills.
- Positive interpersonal skills with excellent communication and customer service orientation.
Key Interactions
- Coordinate regularly with regional operations team, FCU officers, and service quality executives.
- Liaise with neighboring banks, cash management agencies, and BC agents.
Additional Information
This role involves joint custody responsibilities with the Assistant Branch Manager for branch cash and valuables. Mandatory adherence to all prescribed timelines and regulatory compliance is essential. The position supports the bank’s objective of superior customer service and operational excellence.
