Job Overview
Join the Mississippi Department of Employment Security to support the daily functioning of a school cafeteria. Responsibilities include preparing and serving food, maintaining cleanliness, and adhering to USDA and district guidelines to provide a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for students and staff.
Key Duties
- Prepare and serve meals that comply with USDA reimbursable standards along with à la carte offerings
- Participate in cooking, baking, and assembling items such as sandwiches, salads, and entrees
- Operate and sanitize kitchen machinery like slicers, mixers, and ovens
- Handle cashier responsibilities including processing payments, providing change, and monitoring meal counts
- Ensure sanitation and tidiness of food preparation zones, serving counters, and dining areas
- Adhere strictly to food safety guidelines and personal hygiene regulations
- Properly store and manage food stock including leftovers and existing inventory
- Work cooperatively with cafeteria colleagues and assist student helpers when needed
- Maintain compliance with nutrition regulations at local, state, and federal levels
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred
- Previous experience in food service is beneficial but not mandatory
- Capability to read and comprehend recipes and follow detailed instructions
- Basic arithmetic skills required for inventory management and cashier tasks
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
