About the Role
Cook Shire Council is inviting applications for two Labourer roles at the Cooktown Botanic Gardens. These positions offer a chance to work outdoors in a cherished community setting, supporting garden maintenance and contributing to its continual enhancement.
Positions Available
- One permanent full-time Labourer
- One seasonal Labourer position, available until 30 June 2027, to assist during periods of increased maintenance demand due to rainfall and vegetation growth

Key Responsibilities and Skills
- Perform routine general maintenance and horticultural tasks
- Operate equipment such as zero-turn mowers, whipper snippers, and utility vehicles safely and efficiently
- Maintain high standards of workplace health and safety
- Work independently and as part of a team with reliability and professionalism
- Communicate effectively and demonstrate pride in quality workmanship
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience in general outdoor maintenance or related labouring roles
- Current Queensland Class C driver's licence (manual licence preferred)
- Current Construction White Card
- Horticultural knowledge and experience is advantageous
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, good attendance, and initiative
Employment Details
- Classification: Queensland Local Government Industry Award Level 2
- Salary: $69,678 per annum plus applicable allowances (pro-rated for seasonal position)
- Leave: 5 weeks annual leave and 15 days personal leave per annum (pro-rated for seasonal position)
- Work Schedule: 9 day fortnight
- Superannuation: 12% contribution
