About the Role
Join Novo Nordisk at their Athlone site as an Associate IT Automation Engineer, where every system you manage contributes to delivering life-changing medicines globally. You'll play a pivotal part in shaping the IT/OT framework at a critical manufacturing location.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for assigned IT/OT projects from inception through completion, ensuring alignment with defined scope, timing, quality, and compliance standards, per the application Center of Excellence deployment agreements.
- Coordinate and oversee external vendors and system integrators, tracking milestones, assessing performance, and validating acceptance criteria.
- Support implementation, integration, and ongoing management of automation platforms including PLC, SCADA, and MES to ensure peak system functionality and reliability.
- Maintain and enhance process control systems by proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and conducting maintenance tasks; participate in a future on-call roster supporting round-the-clock production.
- Conduct investigations into incidents and deviations, perform root cause analyses, and drive continuous system performance improvements and operational efficiency.
- Ensure strict compliance with GxP and regulatory standards, including change control, validation, and adequate documentation aligned with automation protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with IT, engineering, and operations teams, fostering a quality-first approach consistent with Novo Nordisk's values.
Organizational Context
As part of the Global Manufacturing & Supply division, you will contribute to the entire lifecycle from drug/device development through market delivery. In the Athlone site’s IT/OT team, close interaction with engineering, operations, and external partners ensures robust, compliant automation controls that meet evolving business and regulatory needs.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related discipline; PMP certification is advantageous.
- Experience ranges from 3 to 5 years hands-on in industrial automation and IT/OT within manufacturing, preferably pharmaceutical with GMP-regulated processes.
- Strong analytical skills focused on interpreting client business requirements into actionable technical and operational plans.
- Proficient communication skills, able to engage with multiple stakeholders including peers, management, experts, and vendors.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a high level of adaptability.

Compensation Details
The position's base annual salary lies between 51,520 and 82,430 EUR, with placement depending on the candidate's qualifications. Compensation may also include short- and long-term incentives and other benefits depending on role specifics and market standards.
