Job Overview
The Assistant Librarian will aid the School Librarian in managing the daily operations of the school library. The role focuses on fostering a welcoming, well-organized, and stimulating environment that promotes reading, research, and independent learning among students.
Primary Duties
- Support routine library operations and organization in collaboration with the School Librarian.
- Help students and faculty locate books, resources, and learning materials efficiently.
- Assist in the processing of book lending, returns, proper shelving, and cataloguing of library materials.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all resources are correctly labeled and catalogued.
- Create engaging library displays and help promote new arrivals, reading programs, and school events.
- Provide support to students during dedicated library lessons and independent study sessions.
- Encourage and nurture a strong culture of reading and confidence in utilizing library resources.
- Conduct stock audits and identify resources that are damaged, missing, or outdated.
- Participate in supporting broader literacy initiatives such as book fairs, author visits, and library events.
- Ensure the library remains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all users.
Candidate Qualifications
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant (TA), Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), or similar supporting role within a school setting is highly valued.
- A strong passion for books, literacy, and assisting young learners.
- Good organizational abilities coupled with effective communication skills.
- Comfortable interacting with students across various age groups.
- Basic competency in IT and openness to learning library management software.
- A positive, proactive, and team-oriented attitude.
- No prior librarian experience is necessary as training and ongoing support will be offered.
