About the Role
We are seeking recent PhD or Master's graduates in Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science-related fields to join our editorial team as Assistant Editors in our Manchester city centre office. This is a permanent, full-time on-site position aimed at individuals who wish to remain engaged with scientific research by supporting researchers globally in publishing their findings.
Primary Duties
- Assist in managing the editorial workflow for scholarly journals within your area of specialty.
- Coordinate the peer review process, liaising with reviewers and editors to facilitate timely editorial decisions.
- Manage communications through email among authors, reviewers, and editorial staff involved in manuscript publication.
- Work collaboratively with editorial and production teams to ensure smooth publication processes.
- Maintain high accuracy and consistency when editing scholarly articles and meet strict publication deadlines.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Holds a PhD (preferred) or Master's degree in disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Materials Science, Electronic Science, Data Science, Information Science, Communication Engineering, or related areas.
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
- Advanced skills with MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A cooperative team player able to thrive in an international and dynamic environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail, alongside strategic thinking to comprehend broader contexts.
- Strong aptitude for organization and effective time management.
- Excellent communication and coordination capabilities.
- Interest in attending academic conferences, engaging with visiting scholars, and participating in marketing activities, with a passion for promoting open access publishing.
Training and Career Development
Selected candidates will receive comprehensive training to manage editorial tasks, including manuscript processing from submission to publication, under the mentorship of experienced Managing Editors. This on-the-job training period spans approximately six months. Assignments will align with applicants’ academic backgrounds. While prior editorial experience is not required, familiarity with academic publishing is advantageous. This position is an excellent starting point for young professionals eager to advance in an international publishing company.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary with performance-based quarterly bonuses.
- Salary increase after six months of employment: 10% for PhD holders and 5% for those with Master's degrees.
