Role Overview

As an AI & Data Solution Engineer, you will be responsible for crafting hands-on AI and data engineering solutions that enable One NZ to lead in AI adoption. This position requires collaboration with business stakeholders, development squads, and technical teams to transform business needs into secure, scalable, and deployable AI and data solutions. The role integrates AI, data engineering, business analysis, and solution architecture, minimizing handoffs, expediting delivery, and fostering cross-disciplinary expertise within our workforce.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute daily AI and data engineering tasks across squads and delivery streams.
• Develop, test, deploy, and sustain secure, scalable, production-ready solution components.
• Adhere to engineering frameworks, reusable patterns, coding standards, DevOps/AgentOps practices, and governance mandates.
• Convert business and technical requirements into effective AI, data, integration, and automation solutions.
• Design and maintain data pipelines, AI-enabled workflows, APIs, dashboards, models, prompts, agents, and associated components.
• Ensure compliance with responsible AI principles, data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, access control, observability, and operational reliability.
• Participate in testing, AI performance evaluation, documentation, runbooks, and deployment.
• Address technical challenges and evolving requirements proactively, escalate risks timely, and propose practical solutions.
• Document technical information comprehensively, including solution notes, data mappings, design inputs, test evidence, operational guides, and knowledge-sharing materials.
• Continuously enhance skills in AI, data, cloud, software engineering, and contemporary delivery methodologies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Practical experience in designing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining AI and data solution components employing modern engineering approaches.
• Strong expertise in data structures, SQL, data modeling, quality assurance, reporting, and analytics.
• Working knowledge of AI and Generative AI solution design patterns.
• Familiarity with Python programming, SQL querying, AWS cloud, and pertinent AI or data platforms.
• Ability to translate requirements, designs, and standards into functional solution components supporting team objectives.
• Proficient systems thinking and problem-solving abilities, capable of navigating ambiguity and devising actionable solutions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with confidence in engaging both functional and technical stakeholders.
• A curious nature and commitment to ongoing learning across AI, data, cloud, and engineering disciplines.
