We are seeking a National Purchasing Manager to join our team in Manurewa, New Zealand. This leadership position will oversee and enhance purchasing processes across five sites nationwide under the oversight of the General Manager of Supply Chain. The role balances managing day-to-day purchasing operations with spearheading strategic improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the New Zealand Purchasing Team, fostering a culture of high performance and engagement.
- Manage purchasing activities for both direct and indirect categories ensuring alignment with operational needs.
- Streamline and standardize purchasing processes to increase efficiency, compliance, and service quality.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives including automation and best practices adoption.
- Create detailed reports on purchasing and supplier performance to aid business decisions.
- Build and maintain collaborative supplier relationships, monitoring supplier performance through regular evaluations.
- Support various procurement and sourcing efforts such as RFPs and supplier engagements.
- Ensure procurement compliance, including trade regulations and modern slavery requirements.
- Drive improvements in data accuracy, reporting capabilities, and prepare processes for future system upgrades.
- Collaborate closely with departments such as Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Planning, Finance, Sales, and Marketing.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a commercially savvy purchasing leader adept at creating order, driving change, and delivering tangible results. They possess the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high service levels and excel in influencing and challenging processes to foster enduring improvements.
Key qualifications and experience include:
- Proven leadership experience in managing and nurturing purchasing, buying, or supply chain teams.
- Background in manufacturing, FMCG, plastics, building materials, or related operational environments.
- Deep purchasing and supplier management expertise handling diverse and complex product ranges.
- Track record of successfully leading process enhancements, standardization, and operational excellence projects.
- Strong change management skills with effective stakeholder influence at various organizational levels.
- Advanced analytical abilities to use data effectively for business improvement.
- Experience with ERP systems and analytical reporting tools.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building capabilities.
- A continuous improvement mindset dedicated to adopting best practices in purchasing.
- Tertiary education in Supply Chain, Business, or relevant disciplines is preferred.
