Job Overview
The role acts as the primary technical writer within the IT department, tasked with creating, standardizing, and maintaining a full range of IT documentation such as SOPs, policies, procedures, handover manuals, Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), and procurement-related documents (RFP/RFQ/RFI). This position ensures thorough capturing of knowledge spanning Hosting, Network, EUC, Systems, Applications, and Development functions. All documentation is to be consistently formatted and stored within a controlled, centralized repository.
Key Responsibilities
- Function as the lead author and guardian of IT documentation, delivering clear and uniform materials across IT areas.
- Develop, structure, and maintain IT policies, procedures, standards, and work instructions aligned with ITIL and organizational governance.
- Use and enhance existing tools and repositories for documentation, including SharePoint Infrastructure Wiki and Quality Management Systems.
- Create handover guides, knowledge base articles, standard operating procedures, runbooks, and operational manuals to support IT teams.
- Draft Business Requirement Documents, technical/functional specifications, design documents, and workflow/process documentation.
- Prepare procurement documents such as RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs in collaboration with technical teams and procurement.
- Co-author IT job descriptions, role profiles, and organization documents alongside hiring managers and HR.
- Convert complex technical information from various IT domains into clear, audience-appropriate materials.
- Establish and uphold documentation standards, including templates, style guides, naming conventions, and version control protocols.
- Review and edit documentation created by colleagues to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to standards.
- Maintain an organized, version-controlled document repository with access management and lifecycle oversight.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts across IT to verify technical accuracy.
- Ensure all outputs meet governance, security, audit, and compliance necessities.
- Support change and service management by documenting Requests for Change (RFCs) and process updates.
- Continuously enhance the quality, clarity, and accessibility of IT documentation based on feedback and new standards.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Technical Communication, English, or related discipline.
- Essential: ITIL Foundation certification version 3 or higher.
- Desirable: Certification in Technical Writing or equivalent credentials in documentation.
Skills and Competencies
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills in English; Arabic language skills are advantageous.
- Exceptional abilities in technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Comprehensive knowledge of IT principles spanning Hosting, Network, EUC, Systems, Applications, and Development.
- Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and IT service management practices.
- Adeptness at translating complex technical topics into straightforward, structured documents.
- Strong organizational proficiency with meticulous attention to detail and disciplined version/document control.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Visio, SharePoint, and other documentation/collaboration software.
- Capability to operate independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders and technical experts.
- Excellent time management skills for handling multiple documentation assignments concurrently.
Experience
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in technical writing or IT documentation within an IT setting.
- Demonstrable history of preparing IT policies, procedures, SOPs, BRDs, and procurement documentation.
- Experience collaborating across diverse OT and IT sectors and working closely with technical subject experts.
- Background in large enterprises or manufacturing/OT environments considered a plus.
Minimum education
Bachelor's Degree
