About the Role
In the role of Document Controller at Austal Defence Australia (ADA), you will oversee the organization, submission, and regulation of project documents. Your responsibilities will include managing correspondence transmittals and ensuring data fidelity within document management systems. You will maintain the accuracy, accessibility, and compliance of documents according to control procedures and industry norms. This includes handling efficient document handling processes, metadata, workflows, and version management.

Austal is a leading Australian shipbuilding company and a prime contractor for Defence projects. They specialize in designing, building, and supporting defence and commercial vessels internationally, operating across Australia, the USA, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Under the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement, Austal is pioneering an ongoing naval shipbuilding initiative in Western Australia that promotes innovation, sovereign capability, and long-term opportunities for Australian industry and workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily management and control of project documentation
- Maintain document versioning and control changes effectively
- Perform quality checks and validate documents
- Coordinate document delivery schedules
- Update and keep an accurate project correspondence register
Candidate Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in document control or records management
- Familiarity with electronic document management systems and ensuring metadata accuracy
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
- Experience in document formatting, managing transmittals, overseeing master document registers, and generating document control reports
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities, and proficiency in multitasking
- Experience with SharePoint
- Preferably, experience with Defcon systems
- Eligibility for obtaining a Defence Security Clearance
