Job description

Overview

Featherstone Primary School invites applications for a dedicated and practical Building Services Supervisor to join our active Site Team. This role is ideal for individuals with a background as a handyman, caretaker, premises assistant, or those possessing strong DIY and maintenance capabilities who thrive in a hands-on work setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage site security, including keyholding duties, opening and locking the premises, and operating alarm systems.
  • Maintain school grounds and outdoor areas through routine tasks like litter picking, gritting, snow clearing, and other grounds maintenance.
  • Assist with setting up and clearing classrooms, halls, and outdoor locations for lessons, assemblies, and events; oversee deliveries and control site inventory.
  • Perform minor building repairs, routine maintenance, and general upkeep to ensure facilities are in excellent condition.
  • Support porterage tasks such as moving furniture, equipment, and managing deliveries as needed.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols while fostering a positive safety culture within the school environment.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in line with school safeguarding policies and procedures.

Candidate Profile

  • Possesses a practical, hands-on approach willing to engage in a variety of physical tasks.
  • Displays proficient DIY and maintenance skills coupled with a motivated and proactive attitude to maintain the school’s facilities at a high standard.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in a dynamic school environment interacting with pupils, staff, visitors, and contractors.
  • Exhibits flexibility in work approach and maintains a positive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a team and contributes positively to the school community.
  • Capable of working independently by using initiative to identify and resolve challenges.
  • Open to undertaking relevant training and professional development to enhance role effectiveness.

Additional Information

This position is subject to Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016), requiring fluent spoken English proficiency. Prospective applicants are encouraged to arrange prior visits during 07:00 – 18:00 by contacting the school via email.
