Overview
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a full-time Railroad Flagger based in Macon, GA. This position involves ensuring safety on railroad sites by managing train movements and adhering to federal safety regulations. The role supports a range of rail projects including major railroads, short lines, transit systems, and state transportation initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee site activities to maintain safety and workflow
- Effectively communicate with dispatchers, train crews, railroad personnel, and contractors
- Lead safety briefings before commencing any work
- Strictly enforce railroad, state, and federal safety regulations
- Verify contractors comply with training requirements
- Identify and address any violations of safety rules promptly
- Generate daily reports documenting work activities
- Maintain safety protocols on tracks according to federal guidelines
Requirements
- At least two years of experience with Class 1 Railroads, Regional Short Lines, Transit Systems, State DOT Rail Divisions, Railroad Suppliers, Contractors, or Consultants, ideally within Maintenance Of Way (MOW) Departments
- Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Citrix, email, phones, and messaging apps
- Comfortable operating Android tablets and smartphones
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
- Knowledgeable about railroad engineering, design, construction, and safety
- Ability to build and sustain solid client relationships
- Willingness to travel extensively, often for prolonged periods (50-85% travel expected)
- Completion of all necessary federal, client, and company training
- Physical capability to stand for long durations, walk on uneven terrain, lift up to 50 pounds, and endure extreme weather and noisy, dusty conditions
- Good near, far, color, and peripheral vision required
Work Environment
- Primarily field-based work
- Regular travel or long-distance driving required
