About the Role

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Employee in Charge (EIC) in Athens, GA. This vital position ensures safe operations on railroad rights-of-way by providing on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state departments of transportation, and other industry partners.

Responsibilities

  • Implement on-track safety procedures including setting up derails, track signs, and other safety devices.
  • Prepare daily field reports and document any violations of safety rules.
  • Coordinate job site activities to maintain safety and efficiency.
  • Maintain radio communication with dispatchers and train crews regarding worksite safety status.
  • Conduct clear and thorough safety briefings with all crew members before track entry.
  • Enforce all applicable railroad, state, and federal safety policies.

Requirements

  • Proficient use of tablets, smartphones, and communication tools for coordinating train movements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to travel extensively, sometimes for months at a time, with travel expected between 50% and 85%.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience with a railroad company, preferably within the maintenance of way department.
  • Successful completion of federal, client, and company-specific training is required.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a field setting adjacent to active railroad tracks. Extensive travel is required as detailed above.
