About the Role
Save the Children International is recruiting a Budgeting and Reporting Assistant to strengthen the Planning, Budgeting, and Reporting functions in its Malawi Country Office, located in Lilongwe. This role reports directly to the Budgeting and Reporting Coordinator and focuses on supporting financial management of partnerships and reviewing partner financial reports ensuring alignment with donor and organizational policies.
Key Duties
- Review financial reports and supporting documents submitted by partners to verify accuracy and proper documentation.
- Assist partners in adhering to Save the Children and donor financial guidelines through guidance and reviews.
- Perform both remote and site-based assessments of partner expenditures, identifying inconsistencies and driving corrective measures.
- Support the payment processing for the AICS PROMOSSO Project, ensuring authorization and documentation standards are met.
- Manage advance liquidation processes, maintaining detailed records for fuel and activity-related advances.
- Enable effective budget monitoring by assisting budget holders and program teams with realignments and monthly Budget Versus Actual reporting.
- Contribute to the preparation of the Master Budget, CAP Forecast, and subsequent financial forecasts.
- Prepare financial reports that meet donor requirements within stipulated timeframes to aid management decision-making.
- Support proposal budgeting and annual budget preparations.
- Provide general financial data and analysis support to teams and field offices as required.
- Perform additional finance-related duties as assigned by the Budgeting and Reporting Coordinator.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Finance and Accounting or equivalent qualification is mandatory; a degree in Accounting, Finance or related disciplines is advantageous.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, or financial reporting is required.
- Prior exposure to NGO or donor-funded financial operations will be beneficial.
- Experience in reviewing financial reports, supporting partner expenditures, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements is essential.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with financial management software is a plus.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities;
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, managing multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
- Demonstrated integrity, professional conduct, and commitment to anti-fraud and corruption principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Willingness and capacity to travel to project sites and partner locations as needed.
