Job description
About the Role
eShepherd is revolutionizing livestock management through virtual fencing and precision farming technologies utilized in over 20 countries. We are seeking a Computer Vision Engineer to develop Vision Weigh, an innovative animal measurement system that uses cameras and advanced computer vision to collect weight and condition data seamlessly as livestock move naturally outdoors, removing the need for traditional weighing yards.
This role involves addressing complex real-world challenges including unpredictable animal movement, varying lighting, camera maintenance issues, hardware limitations at the edge, and ensuring consistent product performance on farms worldwide. The successful candidate will lead the computer vision technology aspect, collaborating closely with experts in software, firmware, hardware, product design, and data engineering to bring pioneering ideas into practical farming solutions.
Key Responsibilities

- Designing edge AI and embedded vision systems optimized for real-time farm use.
- Implementing depth sensing techniques and calibration processes.
- Building pipelines for model optimization, retraining, and continuous improvement.
- Gathering and validating ground truth datasets to enhance model accuracy.
- Monitoring model performance in operational farm conditions.
- Translating prototype models into scalable commercial products.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience delivering computer vision solutions into production environments.
- Proficiency in Python programming and PyTorch framework.
- Expert understanding of segmentation, pose estimation, and 3D/depth vision techniques.
- Experience with deploying models on edge devices.
- Knowledge of data pipelines, model training methodologies, and experimental validation.
- Strong foundations in software engineering and practices using modern development tools.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations and rapidly prototype ideas.
