About the Role
The Software Developer Apprentice position is a blended learning role combining formal training through FIT and hands-on experience at Zinkworks. The program is designed to develop core software engineering capabilities, including programming concepts, software development practices, cloud technology familiarity, teamwork, and professional delivery skills.
Skills and Knowledge Areas Covered
- Programming Foundations: Python, Java, object-oriented programming, data structures, and software fundamentals.
- Data and Databases: SQL, databases, JDBC, and data-driven application usage.
- Backend Development: Using Spring Boot for backend application creation.
- Frontend Basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: JUnit, Karate, error handling, validation, and techniques for writing dependable code.
- Cloud Concepts: Google Cloud Platform including Cloud Run, Spanner, and relevant cloud exercises.
- Deployment and CI/CD: Working with Docker, Docker Compose, deployment concepts, and GitHub Actions.
- AI and Modern Tools: Google Gemini, Google Agentic Development Kit (ADK), natural language to SQL conversion, and ethical use of AI resources.
- Teamwork and Professional Practices: Scrum methodology, code reviews, feedback incorporation, conflict resolution, and effective communication.
Primary Responsibilities
- Timely completion of all FIT training modules and assignments.
- Executing programming exercises and project-related tasks as assigned.
- Collaborating with the team to complete projects and address challenges.
- Participating actively in team ceremonies such as daily scrums, planning sessions, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Seeking guidance when required and applying feedback from mentors and technical leads.
- Maintaining a learning journal or reflection practice when mandated.
- Demonstrating professional conduct with colleagues, trainers, mentors, and other Zinkworks personnel.
