Job description
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Maintenance Worker for apartment buildings located in Nanaimo, British Columbia. This full-time role is strictly on-site, with no remote work options, focusing on maintaining the residential complex's safety, functionality, and appearance.
Languages and Education
- Fluency in English is required.
- Completion of a college, CEGEP, or equivalent diploma program (1-2 years) is necessary.
Experience
Candidates should have between three to five years of relevant work experience in maintenance roles, specifically in cleaning and repair tasks within residential settings.
Work Environment
- Responsibilities take place within apartment or condominium complexes across various locations, primarily residential.
Key Responsibilities
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and wax floors, hallways, and stairs.
- Use industrial vacuum cleaners to eliminate dirt, debris, and scraps.
- Empty waste and trash containers regularly.
- Wash windows, interior walls, and ceilings thoroughly.
- Conduct minor repairs and adjustments on heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems; coordinate with professionals for major repairs.
- Advertise available vacancies and show apartments/offices to prospective tenants.
- Engage contractors for repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Perform minor appliance repairs and routine maintenance like painting and drywall restoration.
- Conduct safety and security inspections regularly.
- Handle moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain plants, lawns, and garden areas by watering and tending.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures diligently.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Clear snow and ice from pathways and parking areas during winter months.
Specializations and Equipment
- Experience in painting and wallpaper tasks is required.
- Cleaning experience in residential or similar environments.
- Proficiency in the use of power tools.
Additional Information
- Applicants must successfully complete a criminal record check.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and own transportation is necessary.
Physical and Work Conditions
- Ability to work under pressure and perform repetitive tasks.
- Capacity to handle physically demanding duties including bending, crouching, kneeling, and lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
