Role Objective

The primary function of the Porter is to facilitate hospital operations by safely transporting and escorting patients, equipment, medical files, and related items between various hospital departments, thereby supporting the delivery of exceptional patient care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transport and escort patients securely to designated locations within the hospital.
  • Provide assistance during emergency evacuations.
  • Perform driver duties as requested by the hospital and compliant with hospital guidelines.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of patient rights while upholding Mediclinic’s core values.

Required Education and Experience

  • Essential: Completion of Grade 10.
  • Desired: Additional education is not necessary.
  • Essential: Experience in client services or public interaction roles.
  • Desired: Experience working in healthcare or care roles.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver's licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Understanding of patients' rights charter.
  • Proficiency in English including reading, speaking, and writing.
  • Knowledge of kinetic handling techniques.
  • Awareness of medico-legal risks.
  • Familiarity with two-way radio communication systems.
  • Basic computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Comprehension of internal emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Understanding of administrative duties related to the role.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Act regulations.
