Overview
As a Principal Engineering Geophysicist at WSP, you will be an integral part of one of Australia's leading geoscience and engineering consultancies. Taking on a leadership role within the Geotechnical & Tunnels team, you will contribute to significant projects spanning infrastructure, tunnelling, resources, energy, and environmental sectors in Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical data from airborne, ground, marine, and borehole surveys.
- Deliver expert geophysical advice addressing complex ground engineering challenges for both internal teams and clients.
- Develop, validate, and implement sound geophysical methods ensuring high-quality scientific output across projects.
- Manage project scopes, budgets, and contracts, overseeing delivery of projects that vary in size and complexity.
- Provide clients with guidance through technical complexities, regulatory compliance, and recommended geophysical practices.
- Contribute specialized knowledge to proposals and strategic business development initiatives.
- Promote safety and health standards by leading HSE efforts within projects.
- Mentor and coach geophysicists to foster technical expertise and build a culture of excellence within the team.
- Remain informed of emerging technologies and research advancements in geophysics.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a recognized expert in geophysical survey design, data handling, and interpretation, who enjoys leading through innovation and strategic thinking. You communicate technical concepts clearly, balance client expectations with technical rigor, and excel in nurturing team growth in collaborative environments.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics; advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) are highly valued.
- Minimum of 15 years' experience delivering geophysical services on major projects.
- Proficient with key industry geophysical software such as Rayfract, Refract, SurfSeis, SeisImager, ReflexW (2D/3D), GeoTom, SonarWiz, Res2DInv, and WellCAD.
- Experienced in managing large, multidisciplinary projects with strong commercial acumen.
- Skilled in producing, reviewing, and approving complex technical reports.
- Excellent client management capabilities with a demonstrated history of exceptional client outcomes.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop technical teams.
- Holds a valid unrestricted driver’s license in Australia.
