About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer to contribute to the design and enhancement of the mechanical hardware components behind eShepherd, Gallagher's innovative virtual fencing system for cattle. This role demands a practical mechanical engineer who excels in developing durable products engineered to perform dependably in challenging farming environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Create mechanical designs for both new and existing eShepherd products.
- Develop cost-efficient, robust, and production-ready hardware solutions.
- Participate actively through all phases including concept development, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and field support activities.
- Support design for manufacturing (DFM) reviews, design failure mode effects analysis (DFMEA), and critical design assessments.
- Investigate and resolve field issues, warranty claims, and feedback related to product reliability.
- Translate customer and field experience insights into actionable design improvements.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including electronics, firmware, product management, manufacturing, and customer support.
- Mentor and guide junior engineering staff to uphold strong standards of design quality.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of five years’ relevant experience in engineering roles.
- Educational background in mechanical engineering, research and development, or product design.
- Expertise in injection molded plastics and material selection for manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience designing effective functional mechanisms.
- Proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), preferably using PTC Creo software.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), drawing release processes, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and DFMEA methodologies.
- Strong skills in root cause analysis and pragmatic problem-solving.
- Ability to make informed engineering decisions despite incomplete data.
