Job description
About Kraken and the Role
Join Kraken and contribute to leveraging technology in revolutionary ways to create a significant environmental impact. Kraken innovates in the energy sector by optimizing renewable energy generation, modernizing grid intelligence, and enabling utilities to provide superior customer experiences globally. Our mission is to improve a billion lives over the next decade through cleaner energy solutions.
You will be part of a global engineering team of around 1,400 professionals across server, client, and mobile platforms. Our teams work with agility and flexibility in tooling choices, fostering a learning environment where developers enhance their skills and contribute to open-source coding practices.
Our backend technologies include Python, Django, GraphQL (Graphene), Celery, and PostgreSQL. We utilize CircleCI for CI/CD, deploy frequently on AWS EKS managed with Terraform, and monitor our services with tools such as Sentry and Datadog. Developers also have access to advanced AI tools to assist their coding, though all code ownership remains human.
Kraken Engineering comprises multiple specialized groups collaborating to build a cohesive platform deployable worldwide, often working on diverse challenges such as modeling energy markets, scaling financial products internationally, or customizing solutions per client needs.
Responsibilities
- Tackle complex domain modeling and engineering challenges related to energy using Python, Django, GraphQL, Celery, and PostgreSQL.
- Produce clean, well-tested software incorporating unit, integration, and functional test coverage, considering diverse scenarios including edge and failure cases.
- Apply methodical debugging techniques to resolve production issues and gain familiarity with an extensive codebase.
- Create clear, comprehensive documentation for features to support teammates and stakeholders.
- Engage collaboratively by sharing insights respectfully, responding constructively to feedback, and nurturing a positive team culture focused on growth.
- Take ownership of delivering moderate complexity engineering tasks, improving system observability, and managing technical escalations independently.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers, assist in onboarding, and participate in hiring evaluations to support team development.
- Collaborate across domains to communicate technical concepts effectively, advocate engineering best practices including performance, security, and testability, and contribute to solution ideation.
Required Expertise
- Proficient in Python and web frameworks such as Django.
- Experience in domain modeling and architectural system design.
- Competent with GraphQL implementations.
- Skilled in writing robust and fault-tolerant applications.
- Familiar with asynchronous task management using Celery.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL database systems.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and automation tools including AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with frontend frameworks is advantageous.
