Role overview
Graymont is seeking a Production Supervisor to work across its Otorohanga and Te Kuiti plant locations in New Zealand. This position is centered on leading day-to-day frontline operations so production and dispatch run safely, efficiently, and in a cost-effective way. The role also carries responsibility for planning output, coordinating deliveries, managing inventory, guiding the team, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring strong compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Health, safety and environment
- Support Graymont’s zero-injury approach by consistently following all safety rules, procedures, and site standards.
- Watch for safe and unsafe practices, and provide constructive feedback when needed.
- Take part in health, safety, housekeeping, and site-based meetings.
- Record, report, and help investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards using the company’s systems.
- Track corrective actions and ensure they are completed within the required timeframe.
- Work in line with environmental policies and operating procedures.
- Use practical precautions to reduce environmental risk and promptly escalate any environmental issue, incident, or hazard.
Team leadership
- Supervise and coordinate the daily work of frontline operations staff.
- Set priorities, assign resources, and monitor how work is carried out.
- Coach and support team members to meet expectations for safety, production, quality, and performance.
- Build a workplace culture based on teamwork, shared accountability, and positive employee relations.
- Provide ongoing feedback, training, and development to strengthen team capability and flexibility.
Production planning and operations
- Create and manage production plans using sales forecasts and inventory needs.
- Coordinate production, dispatch, and other operational tasks to meet customer requirements.
- Track production performance and report progress against targets.
- Maintain accurate production information in JDE and resolve any data mismatches.
- Forecast stock requirements for Quicklime and Hydrate products.
Dispatch and logistics
- Organise dispatch activities and work closely with transport providers to ensure deliveries are accurate and on time.
- Make sure all inbound and outbound product paperwork is correctly processed and entered in JDE.
- Look for ways to improve dispatch processes and overall efficiency.
Purchasing and inventory management
- Oversee site stock levels for consumables such as PPE, bags, pallets, diesel, and other operational supplies.
- Raise purchase requests, process receipts, and assist with supplier payment enquiries.
- Monitor stock levels to keep operations running without interruption.
Operational excellence
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, efficiency, and overall operational performance.
- Support continuous improvement work and problem-solving efforts.
- Encourage team involvement in improvement initiatives.
Stakeholder engagement
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, managers, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with maintenance, logistics, planning, and safety teams.
- Communicate operational decisions and changes that affect the workforce.
- Represent the Otorohanga plant at internal meetings and external activities when required.
Reporting and administration
- Use company systems and reporting tools effectively.
- Enter production, inventory, material usage, and energy consumption data into JDE accurately and on time.
- Prepare weekly and monthly production and operations reports.
- Keep records up to date and support wider business reporting needs.
Other duties
You may also be asked to carry out additional tasks that fit your skills, training, and operational needs as directed.
Qualifications and experience
The role calls for at least 5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing operations environment, along with hands-on involvement in coordinating frontline operational activities. Strong planning, organisation, communication, and problem-solving abilities are essential, as is intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Office and JDE or another ERP system. A full Class 1 (car) driver’s licence is required.
Preferred background
Prior experience supervising or leading frontline teams is advantageous. It is also useful to have a track record of working across multiple functions, influencing stakeholders, and implementing operational improvements.
