Role overview

Unicsul - Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul is seeking a part-time, remote Cyber Security Analyst to help safeguard university systems and networks. In this role, you will watch for security events, assess vulnerabilities, review log data, and look into possible threats or incidents. You will also assist with the rollout of security controls, support incident response work, and help maintain clear security records and reports.

Key responsibilities

  • Track, analyze, and respond to security activity across systems and network environments.
  • Carry out vulnerability checks and identify weaknesses that may affect security.
  • Examine security logs to spot suspicious behavior or indicators of compromise.
  • Investigate potential incidents and support the response process as needed.
  • Help implement and maintain security controls that reduce organizational risk.
  • Contribute to documentation, reporting, and ongoing security-related records.
  • Work with IT teams to strengthen the overall security posture.
  • Support security awareness initiatives and promote safe practices across the organization.
  • Ensure activities align with institutional policies and applicable standards.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Strong grounding in cybersecurity and information security, including the ability to evaluate risk and suggest suitable controls.
  • Hands-on familiarity with network security, such as monitoring, intrusion detection, and protecting network infrastructure.
  • Understanding of application security, secure coding principles, and common software vulnerabilities.
  • Working knowledge of cyber threat trends, security frameworks, and incident response approaches.
  • Education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related area, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, part-time setting while managing time effectively.
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience using security tools such as SIEM platforms, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection solutions is an advantage.
  • Awareness of regulatory or academic security standards is helpful.
  • Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar credentials are a plus.
