About the role

This position sits within a long-established African banking group with more than 100 years of heritage and a strong blend of local, regional, and international capability. The role reports to the Head of Operations & Service and is responsible for delivering accurate, timely service to custodial clients while ensuring all processing meets applicable regulatory requirements.

Core responsibilities

The role is weighted across operations, compliance, reconciliation, and income administration.

  • Handle client instructions end to end, including verifying signatures and making callback checks where required.
  • Process corporate actions and related client instructions.
  • Execute money market investment instructions in line with service-level agreements, with priority given to transactions funding other settlements and primaries.
  • Process withdrawal and benefit payment instructions fully and accurately.
  • Process fixed income investments in both the primary and secondary markets according to SLA commitments.
  • Process equity investment instructions within agreed timelines.
  • Resolve client queries within target turnaround times.
  • Open cash, safekeeping, and depository accounts.
  • Process asset transfers, including FOP transfers.
  • Carry out risk and product family reviews.
  • Perform criticality process assessments and control testing.
  • Prepare regulatory reports for CBK, CMA, and RBA.
  • Complete daily reconciliations of custodial nominee accounts against CASA accounts and investigate any variances.
  • Reconcile processing general ledger accounts daily and complete monthly GL reconciliations.
  • Reconcile assets with depositories, clients, and fund managers.
  • Reconcile cash and investment income, including coupons and dividends.
  • Reconcile deposit balances.
  • Accrue monthly fees and reconcile them.
  • Raise invoices and support custody fee collection.
  • Reconcile custody fee GL accounts.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants should hold a business-related professional degree or equivalent qualification, together with a basic accounting and IT background. Professional certification in CMA Securities Industry Certification (CISI) is required, and CPA or CFA is also listed as a relevant qualification.

The position requires at least 4 years of experience in custodial services or securities services operations. The successful candidate should be able to interpret financial statements and provide appropriate guidance, understand fund manager investment instructions clearly, and apply them correctly. Strong computer literacy and practical experience with relevant systems are essential, along with solid knowledge of the financial sector and investment opportunities.
