Job description
About the company
Zopa began in 2005 as the UK’s first peer-to-peer lending business and later expanded into banking with the launch of Zopa Bank in 2020. The company’s approach is built around doing the opposite of what customers dislike about traditional finance, with a mission to create a banking experience that puts people first and helps them move finance forward. Zopa highlights a culture of ambition, innovation, and meaningful impact, and notes recognition as one of the UK’s most loved workplaces.
The organisation encourages people who enjoy unconventional challenges, different ways of thinking, and making a significant difference. It operates with a strong emphasis on collaboration, inclusion, and building a workplace where people can do their best work.
Role overview
Zopa’s analytics teams are developing automated methods to detect customer and bank issues earlier, before they spread. The work combines analytics, automation, and AI-assisted tooling to move away from manual controls and toward scalable systems that can proactively identify problems and improve customer outcomes.
This is a new, highly visible area with backing from senior leadership and real scope to influence how analytics, automation, and AI are used to solve core business problems. The role works across Product, Analytics, Engineering, and Risk to understand real-world processes, locate data, and convert complex operational workflows into automated solutions and controls. The first focus area will be lending products, including customer statements and related communications, with the role expected to expand into other product areas over time.
What you will do
- Talk with stakeholders across the business to uncover how processes work when they are not fully documented.
- Trace how information flows through systems and identify what should be monitored, checked, or automated.
- Use SQL, Python, and AI-enabled tools to develop scalable automated solutions and controls.
- Work with Product and Engineering to understand architecture and help drive implementation.
- Improve the accuracy, dependability, and scalability of methods used to detect and prevent operational issues.
- Help define a new capability at Zopa by creating reusable methods and patterns as the function grows.
What we are looking for
- A degree or equivalent experience in a STEM subject or a similar field.
- Strong curiosity and a natural drive to understand systems, processes, and data movement in depth.
- Comfort working in uncertain environments where the problem is not fully defined.
- Solid logical reasoning and problem-solving ability, with a structured and practical working style.
- Clear communication and stakeholder skills, including confidence in asking sharp questions and challenging assumptions.
- A proactive approach with examples of owning work and moving it forward independently.
- Exposure to SQL, Python, or comparable analytical tools, or strong evidence of the ability to learn them quickly.
- Genuine interest in automation, AI, and using technology to solve real business issues.
Nice to have
- Background in operations, consulting, fintech, or other fast-paced environments.
- Experience using AI tools to solve practical problems, along with the judgement to evaluate outputs critically rather than accept them blindly.
- Personal projects, training, or coursework that show coding interest or technical development.
Working arrangement
This is a hybrid position based in London. Zopa values flexible working and a healthy balance between in-person collaboration and work-life balance. The role requires attendance at the London office 2 to 3 days per week.
Employees may also work from abroad for up to 120 days per year, subject to having the right to work in the chosen country. Zopa states that it will provide the tools and support needed to help people thrive from day one, wherever they are working.
Diversity and inclusion
Zopa says it offers a workplace free from discrimination and values a range of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds as a driver of better products and a stronger culture. The company notes that it includes nearly 50 nationalities and has a DE&I forum made up of employees who want to make a difference. Reasonable adjustments can be requested during the hiring process.
