Job description
Overview
Shopware stands as a premier ecommerce platform empowering global companies to accelerate and streamline their digital commerce operations. Our open source solution serves leading European brands, retailers, and manufacturers across both B2C and B2B sectors.
Role Purpose
The Senior Data Analyst will own and oversee the analytical framework supporting critical business KPIs such as ARR, revenue, and GMV. This role transcends routine reporting; it is about defining, adjusting, and safeguarding the integrity of metric definitions, implementing changes in the data warehouse, and ensuring users can accurately interpret and defend these numbers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the technical definitions and logic behind the company’s vital KPIs, primarily ARR and revenue.
- Determine when metric definitions require revision, manage approval processes, execute changes, and defend outcomes during audits or external reviews.
- Communicate proactively and clearly about analytics definitions and updates to varied stakeholders from operational teams to management.
- Develop, troubleshoot, and quality assure analytic logics, with strong proficiency in SQL to independently gather and model data.
- Understand and map data flow from source systems through the warehouse to reporting layers, differentiating between data, process, and definition issues.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers who manage pipelines and platforms but retain ownership of analytical logic.
- Design data, tools, and transparency to enable Finance and other stakeholders to self-serve follow-up analysis and control processes—Finance manages the number and its operational use, BI manages definitions and implementations.
- Partner with the Head of BI to establish a governance framework for KPI ownership, documentation, audit readiness, and change management emphasizing adoption throughout the organization.
- Foster knowledge transfer within the BI Team to promote shared standards and practices.
Candidate Profile
- Several years of professional business intelligence or data analytics experience with end-to-end ownership of topics rather than fulfilling predefined requests.
- Advanced SQL skills capable of reading, composing, and debugging complex queries across layered data warehouse environments.
- Experience with contemporary BI tools, notably MS Power BI.
- Understanding or strong interest in business and financial KPIs, including SaaS-related metrics like ARR, NRR, and revenue recognition.
- Proven ability in working collaboratively with Finance or equivalent stakeholders, proficient in communicating methodologies and defending analytic decisions clearly.
- Highly organized, self-driven, and confident in questioning and validating data results.
- Proficient in English (C1 level); German language skills are advantageous.
- Desirable extras include experience with transformation frameworks like dbt, version-controlled analytics, SaaS or ecommerce business contexts, data governance, KPI documentation, and familiarity with auditing or investor reporting protocols.
What We Offer
- A transparent company culture with flat hierarchies encouraging personal initiative.
- Permanent contracts providing job security.
- Flexible working hours with options for mobile and fully remote work within Germany.
- Freedom of choice regarding work hardware.
- Structured onboarding supported by a personal mentor.
- A stimulating work environment with dedicated colleagues and a vibrant community.
- Various opportunities for personal development and growth.
- Additional benefits including company pension schemes, health programs, and frequent team events.
