Role Overview

The Developer Productivity & Services Programme at GovTech manages the tools and platforms enabling thousands of government developers to work efficiently. This includes government developer portals, command-line tools, AI-assisted coding tools, CI/CD orchestrations, data-driven developer productivity analytics, and container-based deployment platforms leveraging Kubernetes.

The programme also operates a Central Product Marketplace simplifying how agencies discover, evaluate, subscribe to, bill for, and operate GovTech products.

We seek a Senior/Software Engineer passionate about architecting and maintaining a next-generation, scalable, and resilient Developer Productivity Platform. This role uniquely blends platform product mindset, backend software engineering, developer experience focus, and operational engineering responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Create developer-facing abstractions over cloud-native services (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes), CI/CD tooling, observability, and security to minimize tenant teams' need to understand underlying infrastructure.
• Develop platform services, APIs, command-line interfaces, infrastructure automation, and internal tooling that simplify complex infrastructure consumption securely.
• Establish stable component interfaces, versioning policies, error management, testing strategies, and comprehensive documentation.
• Employ AI-powered engineering workflows and tools such as Claude Code and spec-driven development to accelerate delivery while ensuring software quality.
• Implement reusable CI/CD pipelines ensuring safe, auditable, and repeatable deployments.
• Develop observability standards including dashboards, alerting mechanisms, Service Level Objectives, and adherence to the Four Golden Signals monitoring framework.
• Enhance backup, restore, rollback, incident response, and disaster recovery processes via automation, improved defaults, and better documentation.
• Design reusable provisioning modules and platform interfaces that encode infrastructure standards and guardrails.
• Create self-service workflows empowering users with provisioning, deployment, environment management, observability, and readiness capabilities.
• Leverage developer productivity metrics and signals, such as DORA and SPACE frameworks, to identify friction points and prioritize platform enhancements.
• Collaborate closely with tenant teams to understand deployment and operational pain points and produce comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and onboarding guides.
• Iteratively improve platform features based on real-world user feedback.

• Strong analytical and debugging skills with clarity in approaching abstract problems.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills working with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, policy experts, UX designers, cybersecurity staff, and external partners.
