Backend Engineer – Java & Alibaba Cloud

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned Backend Engineer based in Singapore with over 5 years of experience to architect, implement, and sustain scalable backend systems and microservices. This role focuses on leveraging Java alongside the Spring ecosystem and Alibaba Cloud to deliver robust backend solutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain backend services and microservices utilizing Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
• Design secure, high-performance RESTful APIs and services to meet application requirements.
• Develop and manage microservices architectures including components like service discovery, API gateways, messaging systems, and distributed transaction mechanisms.
• Deploy and administer applications on Alibaba Cloud infrastructure and associated services.
• Integrate databases and enhance both application and data layer performance.
• Implement container management and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes tooling.
• Assist in maintaining CI/CD workflows, ensuring code quality, testing protocols, and smooth deployment cycles.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues to improve system stability, scalability, and performance.
• Work collaboratively across teams to design and deliver effective technical solutions.

Required Skills and Experience

• Expertise in Java (versions 8, 11, 17) covering core concepts such as Collections, Multithreading, Concurrency, Exception Handling, JVM tuning, and Design Patterns.
• Practical experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, Spring Cloud, as well as Hibernate/JPA.
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture, including API Gateway, service discovery mechanisms, circuit breakers, distributed transactions, and messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Hands-on experience with Alibaba Cloud services including ECS, ACK, OSS, RDS, SLB, Cloud Monitor, Function Compute, RAM, Container Registry, and VPC.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with automated build and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI, Maven or Gradle, Git version control, and code quality tools like SonarQube.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
• Strong abilities in problem-solving, debugging, and effective communication.
