Job description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Packaging Machine Operator to become a vital part of our production crew at our Drogheda site. In this practical position, you will be responsible for operating and managing automated packaging machinery such as case packers and baggers, ensuring all products are packaged according to strict quality standards.

Your role will be key in keeping production continuous, hitting output goals, and enhancing overall line efficiency.

Primary Duties

  • Operate automated packaging machines, including case packers and baggers.
  • Set up machinery, perform changeovers, and select the correct program for various SKUs.
  • Maintain smooth operation of the production line to reduce downtime.
  • Monitor performance of machines and adjust settings as necessary.

Maintenance & Improvement

  • Carry out routine inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance tasks (CIL / DFF).
  • Detect faults or inefficiencies and promptly report issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and waste reduction strategies.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all packaged products meet required specifications and quality standards.
  • Accurately complete production records such as downtime, materials usage, and quality checks.
  • Adhere strictly to all Health & Safety, food safety, and site protocols.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate closely with Line Leaders, Maintenance, and Quality teams.
  • Provide clear shift handovers and communicate any issues effectively.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least 2 years experience working with machinery in manufacturing or packaging environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency operating automated production or packaging lines.
  • Ability to safely operate, monitor, and adjust machinery for optimal performance.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication capabilities and team collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to work in a shift-based schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with case packers or baggers, Meypack experience highly valued.
  • Knowledge of OEE systems such as TrakSYS.
  • Background in FMCG or large-scale manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean, 6S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Proficient operation of automated packaging equipment including case packers and baggers.
  • Capability to perform machine setup and changeover for different SKUs.
  • Competent in autonomous maintenance like inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and identifying faults.
  • Experience monitoring production performance (OEE) and actively working to improve it.
  • Ensures products comply fully with packaging and quality standards.

Continuous Improvement Involvement

  • Identifies waste and production inefficiencies or recurring faults.
  • Engages in root cause analysis and problem-solving.
  • Supports application of Lean, 6S, and process enhancement projects.
