Overview

The Controller of Process & Internal Controls is tasked with cultivating a robust internal control landscape by developing, implementing, and monitoring relevant policies and procedures. This role focuses on standardizing business processes and internal controls to maintain consistent governance across operations. Reporting to the Manager of Internal Control, the Controller works collaboratively within the Regulatory, Risk & Compliance division and liaises with Group DigiFin and MTN Group Risk & Compliance teams as needed.

As a newly established company driving financial product reach and digital expansion, the environment demands handling dynamic challenges including regulatory shifts, innovative workforce practices, and emerging market opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective communication on internal control issues, promoting ownership and accountability among management teams.
  • Offer methodological support to managers for operationalizing compliance agendas, ensuring adherence to internal policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Design and provide training materials focusing on internal control objectives and methodologies.
  • Assist in managing regulatory or market-driven changes, crafting strategies to embed controls mitigating risks.
  • Collaborate on risk management, compliance, ethics, fraud prevention, and business continuity planning ensuring effective controls are in place.
  • Support audit initiatives identifying organizational weaknesses and enforce remediation through risk registers and action plans.
  • Maintain the effectiveness and relevance of control frameworks by monitoring operational changes and adopting best practices.
  • Produce timely reports highlighting internal control status and deficiencies, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Ensure information security measures conform with company policies related to physical and information assets.
  • Align internal control policies with MTN Group Fintech standards and implement risk mitigation directives.
  • Evaluate service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) as needed, including proposing modifications to policies.
  • Escalate significant issues impacting scope, cost, time, or resources to functional leads promptly.
  • Contribute to project execution and provide regular updates on assigned initiatives and departmental metrics.
  • Uphold compliance with governance mechanisms and ensure consistent policy implementation under guidance.
  • Continuously assess and improve internal controls to respond to FinTech’s shifting risk landscape and ensure conformity with Group DigiFin and MTN Group Risk & Compliance standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management, Finance, Accounting, Business Science or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Risk & Compliance or related fields, preferably within Fintech, banking, or telecommunications sectors.
  • Expertise in process and financial controls, regulatory compliance, risk management, fraud investigation, revenue assurance, and audit processes within a Fintech product environment.
  • Familiarity with Institute of Internal Auditors standards, Enterprise Risk Management, and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience in global or multinational enterprises, especially within emerging markets, is advantageous.
