Role Purpose

The Technical Lead - Data, AI and Analytics works closely with the internal Group Data team to provide senior-level technical leadership in designing, developing, and optimising platforms and solutions related to data warehousing, dimensional modelling, ETL/ELT, analytics, and emerging AI technologies. This role focuses on ensuring high-quality solutions aligned to architecture standards and promoting robust data and AI capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and implementation of solutions for data warehouses, data lakes, and associated data platforms, guaranteeing consistency and alignment with architectural guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with data operations, reporting teams, architecture, and business stakeholders to facilitate technical changes, operational readiness, quality assurance, and adoption of data and AI solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership to meet delivery targets, maintain quality standards, uphold architectural integrity, and fulfill service expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to technical architecture principles and coordinate with architectural functions relevant to platform technologies.
  • Offer consultative and hands-on support to Data/Analytics Operations, business-as-usual (BAU), and projects, including guidance on AI-enablement and solution approaches.
  • Coordinate and implement solution requests driven by project needs.
  • Monitor platform and solution performance, detect trends and risks, and drive improvements to enhance reliability, scalability, and service quality.
  • Contribute technical expertise during estimation, prioritization, and delivery planning to ensure sustainable and effective implementation.
  • Provide mentoring, peer reviews, and guidance to enhance engineering practices and develop team capabilities.
  • Determine pragmatic technical approaches to achieve service objectives and delivery outcomes.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and offer technical consultation as per established support models.
  • Plan for the evolution of technical capabilities and platforms to satisfy user, operational, and strategic demands.
  • Promote modern engineering practices and emerging data, analytics, and AI technologies to raise overall technical maturity within the function.
  • Monitor system performance of all covered data platforms.
  • Implement and uphold a health and safety culture aligned with Datacom policies to ensure employee wellbeing and safety.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in commercial Information Technology roles.
  • Expertise in fabric design and architecture, AI-driven analytics capabilities, and modern Microsoft data platform services.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and Microsoft design/architecture principles.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and deploying contemporary data, analytics, or AI solutions within complex enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of dimensional and data modelling, data architecture, and design of modern enterprise data warehouses and data lakes.
  • Familiarity with data analysis, analytics engineering, AI and ML concepts, and practical AI integration in enterprise data ecosystems.
  • Proven experience working within DevOps, Agile environments, and continuous integration frameworks.
  • Background in distributed or high-performance data platforms and systems.
  • Strong software engineering and coding skills, particularly in data-intensive scenarios.
  • Capability to devise and implement scalable data, analytics, and AI solutions to address business challenges.
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex quantitative analyses in a precise and actionable manner.
