Labor Inspector 1 – Weights & Measures

Job Overview

This role involves inspecting and verifying accuracy of small to medium capacity weighing scales, retail motor fuel stations, net content packaging, and price verification compliance throughout assigned counties in West Virginia: Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas, and Summers.

You'll operate from your home base but travel statewide to conduct inspections using state-provided vehicles and equipment. The position requires physical capability to handle weights of up to 50 lbs and includes working in diverse environments such as retail stores, fuel stations, farms, manufacturing sites, and coal mines.

Key Duties

• Conduct regulatory compliance inspections aligned with NIST handbooks 44, 130, 133.
• Maintain accurate data records by entering inspection results into agency databases and reports.
• Travel extensively within assigned counties using state vehicles, with all travel expenses reimbursed.
• Receive hands-on training to perform inspections effectively.
• Fulfill additional related duties as assigned by supervisors.
• Join and represent in the National Council on Weights & Measures.

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid West Virginia driver's license is mandatory.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for prolonged periods.
• Commitment to truthful and complete disclosure in employment verification processes.
• Employment requires passing background checks and official verification from previous employers or institutions.
