Job description

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Java Full Stack Developer to join us on-site in Glasgow. The role involves designing and building robust, scalable enterprise-level applications leveraging modern Java versions, cloud-native patterns, and microservices. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience working with Kafka, Kubernetes, API security protocols, observability tooling, relational databases, and Spring-driven microservices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and microservices frameworks.
  • Create and integrate RESTful APIs with secure authentication and authorization solutions.
  • Implement event-driven designs utilizing Apache Kafka for live data processing and messaging flows.
  • Perform deployment, operations, and debugging of software on Kubernetes clusters.
  • Leverage observability and monitoring tools like Splunk, ELK Stack, Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics to enhance system visibility and reliability.
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and dependability of applications.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including stakeholders, architects, quality assurance, and DevOps throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Maintain high code quality standards through effective unit testing, peer reviews, and continuous integration practices.
  • Design and optimize SQL database solutions with complex queries and tuning for efficiency.
  • Adhere to secure coding principles and enterprise API security standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient with Java 11 or 17 and the Spring ecosystem including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA.
  • Deep understanding of Microservices architecture principles.
  • Practical experience with Apache Kafka for messaging solutions.
  • Experience in deploying and managing applications within Kubernetes environments.
  • Strong knowledge of API security including OAuth 2.0, JWT, OpenID Connect, and API Gateway concepts.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, the ELK stack, and commercial solutions like Dynatrace or AppDynamics.
  • Solid experience with SQL databases like Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL.
  • Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning capabilities.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and automation tools including Maven, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipelines.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Knowledge of containerization technology like Docker.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
  • Frontend development skills with Angular or React frameworks.
  • Previous exposure to Banking, Financial Services, or Payments sectors.

Experience

  • At least 8 years of overall software development experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years specifically working with Java in microservices environments.

Additional Information

  • This role requires full-time presence on-site, 5 days a week, in Glasgow.
