Job Overview
The Fraud & Risk Associate is tasked with evaluating customer applications and documents such as KYC and KYB during onboarding processes, classifying customer risk levels, and providing advisory input. This role entails managing chargebacks from initiation to completion in line with scheme policies, alongside constant monitoring of transactions and customers to detect and report possible fraudulent activities.
Key Duties
- Develop and maintain the organization’s Risk Management Framework, policies, and controls, identifying and mitigating operational and business risks.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards, recommending improvements when necessary.
- Keep abreast of emerging risk and compliance trends locally and globally to enhance organizational practices.
- Perform KYC/KYB evaluations and appropriate due diligence including Enhanced Due Diligence for merchants and partners, during onboarding and continuously thereafter.
- Ensure adherence to AML/CFT, POCAMLA, data protection, and other financial crime prevention obligations.
- Monitor high-risk transactions and accounts, escalating suspicious activities appropriately.
- Track transactions and merchant activities to recognize unusual patterns indicating potential fraud.
- Develop fraud detection controls and processes to minimize financial losses.
- Oversee chargebacks including receiving, reviewing, documenting, communicating with merchants, preparing disputes with evidence, and coordinating with acquirers.
- Analyze merchant settlement files and manage risks associated with merchants showing negative balances.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive risk, fraud, compliance, and chargeback reports to stakeholders.
- Conduct training sessions to raise awareness of risk, fraud, AML, and chargebacks among employees and merchants.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Compliance, or related fields.
- Between 2 to 4 years of experience in fraud, risk management, compliance, AML/CFT, chargebacks, transaction monitoring, preferably within FinTech, payment processing, banking, or financial services sectors.
- Strong understanding and practical knowledge of AML/CFT, KYC/KYB, POCAMLA guidelines, fraud prevention strategies, and financial crime controls.
- Proven experience managing chargebacks and resolving disputes in line with card/payment schemes and acquirers.
- Competence in conducting merchant risk assessments, due diligence, and ongoing monitoring.
- Excellent analytical and investigative capabilities to detect unusual transaction activities and evaluate risk exposure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools; familiarity with transaction monitoring or fraud detection systems is advantageous.
- Ability to produce detailed reports, maintain documentation, and communicate effectively.
- High integrity, meticulous attention to detail, and strong confidentiality maintenance.
- Capability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and make well-reasoned risk-based decisions.
- Professional certifications in AML, Fraud, Risk or Compliance such as CAMS considered an asset.
