Software Engineer - Java / Kotlin

Role Summary

We seek a proactive Software Engineer skilled in Java and Kotlin to join our engineering team in Singapore on a 12-month contract with a possibility of extension. The role focuses on developing, enhancing, and maintaining scalable, reliable applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and support applications using Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, EJB, alongside databases such as MySQL and Oracle, and messaging middleware IBM MQ.
• Interpret business and system needs, translating them into scalable technical solutions.
• Identify and fix intricate defects in legacy systems and resolve live production problems.
• Maintain consistent coding, performance, and security standards.
• Engage in all phases of the software lifecycle including design, development, testing, and deployment.
• Liaise effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders to communicate complex technical matters clearly.
• Follow Agile frameworks like Scrum and XP to ensure efficient delivery.
• Utilize Test-Driven Development (TDD) and software best practices to ensure solution quality.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proficient in Core Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot development.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Experience in testing with JUnit and TDD methodologies, as well as working with REST/SOAP APIs, JMS/IBM MQ, and SQL databases.
• Good knowledge of relational database management systems and query optimization.
• Familiarity with Linux environments, AWS cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and container technologies.
• Competence in using tools like Git, IntelliJ IDE, and static code analyzers such as SonarQube/SonarLint.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and analytical thinking to debug complex technical issues.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within teams.
• Experience in banking or financial services sector is advantageous.

Additional Desired Skills

Knowledge in JBoss, JPA, EJB, Kafka, and ReactJS framework is a plus.

Contract Information

This is a fixed-term engagement of 12 months based in Singapore, with potential extension depending on performance and business needs.
