Transfer Station Operator

Position Overview

Join our team as a Transfer Station Operator, working full-time to support the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible functioning of waste transfer stations operated by the local council. This position is permanent and based across multiple Yass Valley Council Transfer Stations.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the transfer station is maintained cleanly, safely, and presents well to the public.
• Assist community members with recycling and waste disposal processes.
• Deliver courteous and professional customer service to all visitors.
• Supervise dump areas to prevent contamination and illegal disposal of hazardous waste.
• Gather recyclable and valuable materials, sorting plastics and glass appropriately.
• Accurately document daily financial takings and transaction records for accountability.
• Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety policies, promoting a safe operating environment.

Previous experience in waste management, local government operations, or related fields is highly desirable. Holding licenses such as skid steer, excavator, or a Heavy Rigid (HR) vehicle license is advantageous.

Employment Benefits and Conditions

• Hourly wage ranging from $31.15 to $33.65 plus 12% superannuation.
• An additional Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $1.38 per hour.
