About Waitaki Boys' High School

Role Overview
We are seeking a Hard Materials Technology teacher for the 2027 academic year to teach boys from Years 9 to 13, including senior NCEA classes. The position emphasizes maintaining hands-on learning experiences that encourage creativity and craftsmanship through the use of a well-equipped workshop. Students are motivated to apply design and practical skills through engaging coursework.
Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas
- Teach Hard Materials Technology, including but not limited to Product Design, Wood and/or Metal Technology.
- Incorporate Construction, Building, and Engineering principles into lessons.
- Utilize CAD/CAM and digital design tools to support student learning.
- Guide students through the NCEA Technology pathways.
- Maintain a safe workshop environment for operating machinery and hand tools.
Candidate Profile
- Experience with design thinking and knowledge of engineering and construction principles.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with young male students, fostering engagement and rapport.
- A qualified teacher with a solid pedagogical foundation and enthusiasm for nurturing young men’s development.
- Committed to upholding health and safety standards in a practical learning setting.
