Senior Android Video Player Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, build and enhance Android video player frameworks and SDKs focused on live streaming.
• Modify and extend ExoPlayer modules, adaptive bitrate algorithms, and player configurations to elevate playback efficiency.
• Diagnose and fix challenging playback problems such as buffering delays, latency issues, and playback interruptions in live streaming settings.
• Manage dynamic streaming manifests (MPD/M3U8) alongside adaptive bitrate strategies to maintain fluid playback regardless of network variability.
• Incorporate and upkeep advertising technologies within the player, including IMA, DAI, and SSAI.
• Leverage Quality of Experience (QoE) analytics tools to identify playback problems and enhance real-world performance.
• Work cooperatively with interdisciplinary teams to secure consistent playback quality on various devices.
• Drive continuous improvement efforts and establish best practices across streaming projects.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• At least 7 years of hands-on Android development with advanced knowledge in Kotlin and Java.
• Documented experience in constructing and sustaining video players and live playback functionality for Android and Android TV platforms.
• Substantial expertise with ExoPlayer customizations and optimizations tailored to live streaming.
• Strong skills in troubleshooting, minimizing buffering, latency, and enhancing playback smoothness.
• Well-versed with streaming protocols like DASH and HLS, adaptive bitrate workflows, and ad tech solutions such as IMA, SSAI, and DAI.
• Proficiency with video QoE analytics tools, e.g., Conviva, Mux, and Hydrolix, to monitor and improve playback delivery.
• Experience with Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines, and Flow programming.
• Excellent English communication abilities, both spoken and written.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently within a fast-paced, remote context.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous exposure to broadcasting or OTT streaming environments.
• Experience in large-scale live sports streaming operations.
• Flexibility to accommodate working hours aligning with distributed global teams, particularly in overlapping US time zones by 5 to 6 hours daily (PST).
