Role Overview

The Sampling Technician plays a vital role in preserving the quality and safety of Auckland's water and wastewater infrastructure. Responsibilities include collecting and testing water samples from diverse locations throughout Auckland, ensuring accurate handling and delivery to comply with regulations and promote public health and effective operations.

This position involves practical fieldwork combined with laboratory assistance and customer interaction, offering a dynamic work environment across various water environments such as drinking water, wastewater, environmental sites, and groundwater.

Key Duties

  • Gather water and wastewater samples from multiple Auckland locations.
  • Perform in-field testing and meticulously document outcomes.
  • Maintain and prepare all necessary sampling equipment and vehicles.
  • Calibrate field instruments and input data accurately into lab management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance policies and accreditation standards.
  • Detect and report irregularities, contributing ideas for ongoing improvements.
  • Participate in an on-call schedule as needed.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Background or interest in scientific fields.
  • Experience with environmental sampling, monitoring, or laboratory tasks.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
