About the Role
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a dedicated Railroad Flagger to ensure the safety of workers on train tracks by managing train movements in compliance with federal regulations. This role supports a variety of rail operations including major railroads, regional short lines, transit systems, state DOT rail divisions, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate site activities to ensure safe work environments.
- Effectively communicate with dispatchers, train crews, railroad personnel, and contractors.
- Lead safety briefings prior to commencement of work.
- Strictly adhere to and enforce all applicable railroad, state, and federal safety standards.
- Verify that contractors comply with all required training standards.
- Identify and address any violations or safety concerns during operations.
- Perform daily reporting of work-related activities.
- Maintain on-track safety according to federal safety regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- At least two years of experience with Class 1 Railroad, Regional Short Line, Transit System, State DOT Rail Division, Railroad Supplier, Contractor, or Consultant, preferably within Maintenance of Way (MOW).
- Proficient in basic computer applications including Citrix, email, phones, and texting platforms.
- Comfortable using Android tablets and smartphones for work-related tasks.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Knowledgeable in railroad engineering, design, construction, and safety principles.
- Ability to build and sustain positive client relationships.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively, often for extended periods (50% to 85% time away).
- Capable of completing mandatory federal, client, and company training programs.
- Must be fluent in English including speaking, reading, and writing.
- Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, walk on uneven terrain, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Mental and physical endurance to work outdoors in extreme hot or cold weather, noisy and dusty conditions.
Work Environment
This position primarily functions in field conditions, requiring adaptability and resilience to challenging outdoor environments.
