About the role

This fixed-term, full-time Developer role is based at AUT’s City Campus and sits within the AI Acceleration Centre team. It is suited to someone who enjoys building quickly, testing ideas, and turning concepts into working solutions with modern development tools. The position offers a chance to contribute to visible, high-impact work across AI and digital experience initiatives that improve how students and staff engage with technology.
What you will do
- Help design, build, and deploy solutions within existing architecture and development standards.
- Create and support APIs, system integrations, and cloud-based applications.
- Prototype ideas quickly and refine them through repeated testing and iteration.
- Work on clearly defined problem areas while contributing to broader delivery goals.
- Partner with users and product teams to test, learn, and improve solutions.
- Use modern development tools and AI-supported workflows to deliver efficiently.
- Take part in agile delivery, peer review, and ongoing improvement activities.
- Write clean, documented, tested, and dependable code aligned with team expectations.
- Keep up with new technologies and suggest ways to improve delivery and capability.
About you
You are someone who enjoys experimentation, practical problem-solving, and working with energy and curiosity. You are comfortable trying new approaches, adapting to change, and contributing positively to a collaborative environment.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a similar field.
- About 3 years of experience in software development.
- Hands-on experience with languages such as C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or comparable technologies.
- Working knowledge of modern development practices, including version control, agile methods, testing, and continuous integration.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Familiarity with APIs, web frameworks, microservices, and frontend technologies.
- Interest in AI, automation, emerging developer tools, AI-assisted development, and rapid prototyping.
- Ability to learn new tools quickly and work across different technologies.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills with a practical, proactive approach.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and support for AUT’s Te Aronui journey.
- Ability to work respectfully with indigenous peoples and culturally diverse communities, with cultural humility and awareness.
- Experience supporting indigenous, equity, or inclusion-focused initiatives is highly desirable.

Additional information
This is a fixed-term, full-time position. Full-time hours at AUT are 37.5 per week. The salary range for this role is NZD 76,000 to NZD 102,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. The closing date is 2 July 2026 at 5:00 pm. Job reference: 95389.
