Role Overview

The Data Engineer will focus on improving data quality across enterprise environments by developing, monitoring, and refining rules, controls, and processes that keep data reliable, complete, and trustworthy. The role supports better decision-making by ensuring high-integrity data flows through business systems.

Responsibilities

Build, implement, and support frameworks and processes that improve the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of enterprise data.
Work with governance, master data management, and integration teams to apply uniform data quality standards.
Use profiling, anomaly detection, and validation techniques to identify data issues and understand their root causes.
Create automated checks and remediation workflows that keep data quality under continuous review.
Define data quality KPIs, track them over time, and create dashboards that show trends and problem areas.
Maintain documentation for rules, incidents, and corrective actions within the governance process.
Partner with business stewards and domain owners to agree on quality expectations and acceptance thresholds.
Support audits, compliance checks, and maturity assessments with evidence, reports, and findings.
Design and roll out scalable data quality solutions across multiple domains and platforms.
Set enterprise data quality policies, standards, and rule sets aligned with governance goals.
Create scorecards, thresholds, and escalation paths for serious data issues.
Perform root cause analysis and lead remediation efforts for recurring data problems.
Guide junior engineers and promote good data quality practices across teams.
Contribute to compliance with local data management regulations such as NDMO and NDI.
Develop secure and scalable data pipelines for ingestion and transformation, incorporating quality checks into the pipeline design.
Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business leaders to convert business needs into technical data quality solutions.
Evaluate new tools and methods to strengthen data reliability, security, and scalability.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a closely related field.
At least 5 years of experience in data quality, data governance, or data engineering roles.
Hands-on experience with enterprise data quality tools such as Informatica DQ/IDMC, Ataccama, Talend DQ, or SAS DQ.
Strong knowledge of data profiling, rule creation, standardization, and exception handling.
Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or Scala for advanced validation work.
Solid understanding of data governance frameworks and collaboration with data stewards.
Ability to build dashboards, scorecards, and KPI tracking for data quality performance.
Strong communication skills for presenting analyses and recommendations to stakeholders.
Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small data quality workstreams.
Certification such as CDMP Associate, Informatica IDQ, or IDMC DQ is preferred.
Experience shaping data quality strategy and embedding controls into MDM, data warehouse, or data lake platforms.
Understanding of data lineage, root cause analysis, and impact assessment.
Knowledge of metadata management and integration with data catalogs.
Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements, including NDMO and NDI.
Ability to automate workflows through orchestration tools or CI/CD pipelines.
