About Xe

Xe is a platform specializing in cross-border payments, serving small and medium enterprises as well as consumers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The platform supports over 300 million users annually for currency data and more than 350,000 customers for international money transfers.

Currently, the company is revamping its platform technology to support corporate and consumer payment solutions. As part of a nimble team backed by Euronet Worldwide, engineers can deliver impactful solutions rapidly.

Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will take full ownership of backend problems from conception through deployment, including API design, data modeling, implementation, and ongoing system reliability. You will work extensively with AI-assisted development tools in your daily workflow and influence the team’s technical direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain backend services responsible for managing multi-currency transactions and balances across various domains such as onboarding, compliance (KYC/KYB), payment processing, foreign exchange, and settlement.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary efforts across product, compliance, and operations teams from initial problem definition through to successful launch.
  • Develop and maintain partner integrations and infrastructure required for settlements within your domain.
  • Manage production service health, ensuring system reliability, observability, and providing incident response including on-call duties.
  • Lead design reviews, establish domain-specific technical direction, and mentor engineers at mid-level.
  • Utilize AI-driven programming tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) through all stages of software delivery and contribute to modernizing legacy services with architects and other lead engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • 6 to 10+ years of experience developing production-quality backend services with end-to-end ownership.
  • Proficient in backend development, particularly C# /.NET; familiarity with other object-oriented languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Go is also acceptable.
  • Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience in writing and maintaining automated tests as part of development.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted coding tools daily throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services including deployment pipelines, SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda, implementing modern CI/CD practices.
  • Robust skills in system design and architecture, especially service-oriented or microservices architectures, and event-driven design patterns.
  • Background in payments, foreign exchange, or regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated leadership in technical areas such as mentoring, design review leadership, and domain architecture decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of ledger systems, double-entry bookkeeping, or financial data systems.
  • Experience with recruitment activities including interviewing and onboarding engineers.
  • History of leading platform modernization or migration projects.
  • Familiarity with caching technologies such as Redis or Memcached.
  • Use of project management and documentation tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Working knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman or Bruno.
  • Skilled in writing automated tests alongside development utilizing AI tools.

  • Additional annual leave accruing with years of service (up to five extra days)
  • Employer contributions to KiwiSaver pension plan
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage
  • Discounts on Euronet Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Volunteer day dedicated to a charity of your choice
