About the Role
Parsons Corporation invites qualified candidates to join as a Safety Engineer based in Qatar, focusing on sewerage, surface, and groundwater network construction projects. This position involves enforcing safety protocols, conducting site inspections, and promoting a secure work environment to protect both workers and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and enforce safety plans ensuring all construction tasks comply with relevant safety laws and standards.
- Perform regular on-site safety audits identifying hazards related to excavation, trenching, underground works, and water-related network construction.
- Provide safety training to teams on site-specific procedures, emergency responses, and safe practices.
- Support the creation and execution of emergency response plans addressing incidents like trench collapses or hazardous material handling.
- Collaborate with engineers to integrate safety requirements into construction planning and activities.
- Ensure proper use and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear by all personnel.
- Investigate accidents, uncover root causes, prepare incident reports, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain thorough safety documentation including reports, risk assessments, and compliance records.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness among workers, subcontractors, and site teams.
- Coordinate safety drills and monitor site safety performance to ensure emergency preparedness.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and assist during health and safety audits relevant to underground and drainage works.
- Utilize safety management software and tools for tracking safety activities, incidents, and compliance records.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related area from an accredited institution.
- At least 5 years of safety engineering experience, including 3 years in sewerage, surface, and groundwater network or similar construction projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, national, and international safety regulations and standards pertinent to sewerage and water network construction.
- Proven skills in conducting safety inspections, audits, accident investigations, and enforcing corrective actions.
- Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Strong expertise in emergency response planning specific to construction hazards like confined spaces and excavation safety.
- Familiarity with safety management software and digital compliance tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders to uphold safety standards.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Professional safety certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalents are highly regarded.
- Experience working in the Gulf region, knowledgeable about local health and safety regulations and cultural practices.
- Hands-on experience with trenching, dewatering, and excavation safety within water infrastructure projects.
- Understanding environmental health and safety concerns related to drainage and stormwater management.
- Strong leadership qualities to influence and engage with diverse site teams and subcontractors.
- Experience using advanced technology tools such as mobile safety applications and real-time monitoring systems to improve site safety.
- Capacity to work independently while contributing actively to team safety objectives.
