Job description

Role Overview

The Procurement Engineer plays a vital role in acquiring materials, equipment, and services essential for Power, Infrastructure, and Construction projects, ensuring the right quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery. This position collaborates extensively with Engineering, Project, and Site teams to meet project needs.

Core Duties

  • Oversee procurement of electrical, mechanical, civil, construction, and infrastructure-related materials and equipment.
  • Assess technical data including specifications, drawings, Bill of Quantities (BOQs), and purchase requests.
  • Identify, qualify, and develop supplier and manufacturer networks.
  • Request, review, and compare supplier quotes diligently.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Project teams for obtaining technical clearances.
  • Conduct negotiations covering pricing, payment conditions, delivery timelines, and other commercial aspects.
  • Generate and manage purchase orders adhering to company protocols.
  • Monitor supplier timelines to guarantee on-schedule delivery aligned with project demands.
  • Keep track of critical and long-lead time materials and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Site, Quality, Logistics, and Warehouse divisions for inspection and timely delivery.
  • Evaluate supplier performance continuously and address issues related to quality, delivery, or finance.
  • Maintain procurement and supplier data accurately within SAP/ERP platforms.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at cost reduction and value engineering.
  • Perform comprehensive market research to identify suppliers, competitive pricing, material availability, and potential alternatives.
  • Ensure all procurement actions uphold company policies, project standards, quality assurance, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.

Required Competencies

  • Strong understanding of procurement processes in Power, Infrastructure, and Construction sectors.
  • Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, civil, and construction materials and equipment specifications.
  • Capability to comprehend technical drawings, specifications, BOQs, and project requirements.
  • Expertise in evaluating quotations and negotiating terms effectively.
  • Proficient in supplier relationship management and proactive follow-up.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
  • Experience with SAP or ERP procurement modules is advantageous.

Experience & Education

  • At least 8 years of overall professional experience.
  • Minimum 5 years focused on procurement within Power, Infrastructure, Construction, EPC, Utilities, or similar industries.
  • Proven background in project materials and equipment procurement is essential.
  • Experience working within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is beneficial.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a relevant discipline.
  • Additional certifications in Procurement or Supply Chain represent a plus.
