Factory Assistant

Overview

Join Wilmar Sugar Australia Limited as a Factory Assistant at our Victoria Mill facility in Ingham, Queensland. This role offers a hands-on experience with a variety of tasks on the factory floor, playing a vital part in keeping production operating smoothly and safely. You will be part of a dynamic shift team and respond flexibly to operational requirements in a large-scale industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support factory operations by responding promptly to maintenance and operational needs, including cleaning, spill management, and assisting in plant activities to ensure continuous, safe production.
• Operate mobile machinery such as forklifts, skid steers, mobile cranes, and other equipment for tasks like material handling, spill clean-ups, and logistical operations.
• Assist in the safe start-up and shutdown processes of the Milling Train and operate associated equipment including steam turbine-driven shredders.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams including fitters and electricians by providing hands-on assistance during equipment maintenance, breakdown repairs, and other trade-related tasks.
• Conduct routine maintenance duties including cleaning, lubrication, equipment inspections, and basic repairs on machinery such as spotters, carriers, pinions, and juice heaters.
• Adhere strictly to workplace safety protocols, maintain clear communication with shift members including radio contact, identify hazards or unusual plant conditions, and contribute actively to a safe working environment.

Candidate Profile

This position is physically demanding and ideal for someone who enjoys practical, varied work and has mechanical aptitude. The role demands flexibility to shift between different operational, maintenance, and cleaning duties within a heavy industrial setting. Effective communication, reliability, and teamwork skills are essential.

Applicants with experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, trade assistance, or maintenance in operational environments will be favored.

• Confined Space Certification
• Working at Heights Certification
• Mobile Crane Licence

• Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence

While holding all licences is advantageous, applicants willing to learn and demonstrate aptitude and safety awareness can receive on-the-job training to obtain necessary qualifications. Additional merits include trade qualifications and rigging or scaffolding High Risk Work Licences.

Training and Development

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake further training and achieve operational and maintenance competencies relevant to the position.

Work Schedule

This permanent role includes a rotating shift pattern (including nights, weekends, and overtime) during the June to December crushing season. From January to May, the role transitions to daytime hours focused on maintenance and preparation activities.
