Role Purpose

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to assist in the design and execution of commercial electrical infrastructure projects including electrical distribution, solar photovoltaic, and battery energy storage systems throughout New Zealand. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role requires collaboration with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver high-quality, reliable, and compliant engineering solutions that meet sustainability and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design medium to large-scale low-voltage commercial electrical installations.
  • Provide design and advisory input on low- and high-voltage electrical distribution networks.
  • Create engineering designs for solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation including reports, calculations, specifications, drawings, and project-related materials.
  • Review tender documents, procurement information, and contractor proposals.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with clients, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders throughout project phases.
  • Ensure engineering solutions comply with New Zealand electrical, building, health and safety, and industry regulations.
  • Support project planning, conduct engineering reviews, and engage in technical resolution of project challenges.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification recognized by NZQA.
  • At least 4 to 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering design.
  • Residency in New Zealand and possession of a valid New Zealand Driver’s Licence.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing medium and large-scale commercial low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Experience with electrical distribution systems including low and high voltage networks.
  • Background in photovoltaic solar and battery energy storage system design.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio software.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and oral.
  • Strong capability in technical report writing and documentation preparation.
  • Good understanding of New Zealand Health & Safety legislation and industry standards.

Preferred Attributes

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or actively working toward chartership.
  • Prior project management experience.
  • Familiarity with tender preparation, procurement, and contract management.
  • Experience across infrastructure, energy, utilities, or commercial facilities projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and renewable energy initiatives.

Workplace Flexibility

Initially based in the Auckland office with frequent client engagements. After successful integration and demonstrated performance, the role may offer a flexible hybrid working arrangement.
