Role Overview

Join a dynamic Strategy and Communications team in Wellington as a Principal Advisor, Communications. This role focuses on crafting impactful communications that promote positive outcomes for Māori communities and engages effectively with media and public sector audiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior leaders to develop communications supporting priority initiatives.
• Provide strategic advice on messaging, risk, issues, and reputation management.
• Compose executive-level content, including speeches and key messages.
• Assist with media liaison and response preparation.
• Ensure messaging consistency across all channels and materials.
• Mentor team members and oversee quality assurance of high-profile communications.
• Enhance communications capability by delivering practical tools and guidance.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience as a Principal Advisor with a strong strategic approach.
• Relevant academic qualifications and advanced editorial skills, including speechwriting.
• Expertise in communications strategy, planning, and media interactions.
• Experience in the public sector with an understanding of government frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including collaboration with iwi and Māori organizations.
• Comfortable working within te ao Māori, with proficiency in te reo Māori, a grounded understanding of Te Tiriti, and awareness of OIA and privacy legislation.

Additional Information
