Job description
Position Summary
This role requires managing the procurement of minerals and metals by sourcing and purchasing at competitive rates while ensuring the product's quality, grade, quantity, and timely delivery. The supervisor will handle supplier relationships and collaborate with various internal teams including Quality Control, Logistics, Finance, and Commercial divisions.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and assess trustworthy miners, producers, aggregators, and suppliers of minerals and metals.
- Source materials according to validated buyer demands and approved technical specifications.
- Negotiate prices, amounts, payment agreements, and delivery terms ensuring competitive advantages.
- Track price fluctuations, market movements, availability, and opportunities within the minerals and metals sector.
- Evaluate supplier proposals to confirm that purchases meet desired trading profit margins.
- Work with Quality Control teams to validate grades, assay results, specifications, and overall quality prior to purchase or dispatch.
- Liaise with Logistics to coordinate material collection, transport, weighing, storage, and final delivery.
- Maintain thorough procurement documentation, including supplier records, purchase orders, and transaction reports.
- Detect and report risks related to quality issues, pricing variations, supplier dependability, fraud potential, quantity inconsistencies, and late deliveries.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain, Mining, Geology, Business, Economics, or related disciplines.
- Five to eight years of relevant practical experience in minerals and metals procurement, commodity trading, mining, or associated sourcing roles.
- Demonstrated record of managing supplier relationships and negotiating commodity acquisitions.
- Solid knowledge of minerals/metals grades, assays, required technical specifications, and pricing factors.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and ERP or procurement software systems.
